Sonja, Molly and I are enjoying another summer camping trip this weekend. This time we set up camp in Hall Valley just west of Bailey Colorado. The campground, with its nine camp spots, is situated at about 10,000 feet in a meadow packed with wildflowers. Our camper is set just into the pines about 30 feet from the creek with a wide-open view of that meadow. Nice!
We just finished a 3.5-mile hike along a 4×4 road that parallels the North fork of the South Platte River just a few miles from it’s source on the Continental Divide. The wildflowers are amazing! I have never seen so many Columbines growing in one area.
Groupings of hundreds along with a myriad of other beauties carpeted the forest floor under the aspens.
Along the way we meet a dozen teens from a nearby YMCA camp. They had just spent three days backpacking to a high mountain lake. The leader told me they also hiked a 13er during their trip. Oh, to be young again! So much energy!
Well, time to get back to the hard work of relaxing, maybe napping, in the beautiful Colorado mountains.
